A message from Congressman John Sarbanes

Hello fellow Democrats!

Across this country, there is a growing alarm at the influence of big money on our politics and our government.  The good news is that people are beginning to fight back – with demands for more transparency, an outcry against the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and a movement to empower everyday citizens in the funding of campaigns.

In early February of this year, I introduced the Government By the People Act with over 125 original co-sponsors.  If enacted, this legislation will create a new way of funding Congressional campaigns that reduces the influences of big-money donors and special interests and instead lifts up the voices of ordinary Americans.  I encourage you to sign the Government By the People Act petition at www.governmentbythepeopleact.com and join the over 400,000 citizen co-sponsors who have already stepped up in support of this important reform.

I also want to invite you to join the MyVoice campaign, an experiment I am running in my own Congressional district that models key elements of the legislation.  With your help, we can demonstrate the power of everyday citizens.

If you are interested in helping out with the MyVoice campaign, you can go to www.myvoicedoescount.com.  If you like what you see and want to get involved, email me at info [at] johnsarbanes.com
