Support needed for hybrid school board bill

Dear Members and Friends,

As you know, the CBCDC voted to support a change in the way the Baltimore
County School Board is selected. The Club endorsed changing to a hybrid
selection process, meaning that some members will be appointed and some
will be elected. It was noted that this selection process would provide
for accountability and diversity. There is such a bill pending in the
House right now. Unfortunately, the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee
has announced her intention to hold the bill from a vote, meaning that
time will run out this session for it to pass. According to numerous
sources, including the Towson Patch, Delegate Hixson is holding the bill
because she has been asked to do so by County Executive Kamenetz, who does
not support it.

If you support the hybrid school board bill (HB 481), please call Delegate
Sheila Hixson, identify yourself as a Baltimore County resident, and ask
that she support House Bill 481. They will ask for your zipcode. We are
told that a number of people are also calling in opposition to the bill so
we need to let our voices be heard. The legislature will be working
through the weekend so call at any time, day or night. Leave a message if
you do not reach a person.

Call Sheila Hixson 410-841-3469.
