Letter from the President

It’s been a real honor to be president of the CBCDC for the last two years.

I’ve worked with many wonderful people and--I hope--steered the Club in a

good direction while maintaining its focus on electing Democrats.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end.

I have an opportunity to serve in a non-partisan organization that lobbies

for progressive change. To that end, I’ve decided that I won’t be able to hold an

office in a partisan group and will, therefore, need to resign.

Accordingly, I want to ensure a smooth transition. The By-Laws say that the

Board may elect an acting President, so if you are interested in the position,

please notify a board member as soon as possible. There is an article about the

procedure in this issue on page 6.

Meanwhile, as you probably know, Democrats will have a difficult time this

fall, so we want to show them that CBCDC can turn out the vote! On May 1

and 2, CBCDC members will join with the Baltimore County Young Democrats

to staff the Towsontown Festival Democratic Party booth. Let’s hope for great

weather this year—unlike last year.

There are a lot of great things in the works, especially the May 2nd

Fundraiser; it’s an affordable $25, so we need as many of you to come out as

possible!

Warmly,

Tracy

Our April meeting will be on April 13, 2010. Matthew Stegman, the Maryland Democratic Party representative in Baltimore County, will gear us up for the coming election campaign season and Dan Ewald will help us celebrate the warm weather by teaching us to save energy while saving money. Originally from Ohio, Matthew has worked on several contentious campaigns and has a good feel for what needs to happen in Baltimore County. As the club that provided much of the Central Baltimore County support for Obama’s win in 2008, we’re critical to ensuring the success of Democratic candidates in 2010. Our own Steve Lafferty is going to need our help, and so will the other candidates—including Governor O’Malley and Lt.

Governor Brown.

Dan Ewald is a thrifty environmentalist and CBCDC board member. He’ll teach us how to save money by being environmentally friendly. Join us at 6:45 for light refreshments and at 7:15 for the meeting.

Mark your calendars for May 2nd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and plan to attend the Gary Rubin Concert and Cabaret at Towson

University on a Sunday afternoon in spring. If you’ll be making your way out of the Towsontown Festival or wondering what you might do on such a lovely Sunday evening, check this out: an opportunity to attend a gracious and pleasant event with friends or loved ones. It will be both a trip down Memory Lane for Sinatra lovers and in step with current hits for Michael Buble lovers. This talented singer, his pianist, Brent Hardesty, and other band members will please your ears and spirit while you also may enjoy snacks and beverages. The Central Baltimore County Democratic Club is cohosting this concert/cabaret in the Susquehanna Terrace room at Towson University as a fund-raiser for the Club and for the Progressive Democrats Of

Towson (PDOT). Unlike many fund-raisers where you find yourself listening to still another political speech, you'll hear things

like Bobby Darin's (recently updated by Michael Buble) "Beyond the Sea," the Cole Porter classic, "I've Got You Under My

Skin," and Sinatra favorites "Chicago" and "Nice and Easy." These tunes will make for easy listening, set your toes to tapping,

and may even get you out of your seat for a dance.

In his everyday life, Gary Rubin is the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Towson, but as an entertainer he

has been making a niche for himself in the entertainment field in Baltimore. He has sung at Germano's Cabaret in Little Italy

as well as other sites and has made several CD's which will be available at the Cabaret as well as the Democratic Booth at the festival.

The venue will be set up in cabaret fashion and beer, wine, and light fare will be available. We thank our co-sponsors, the

Towson University Progressive Democrats, for their help and support. Tickets are $25.00 and will be sold prior to the concert at

the Democratic Booth of the Towsontown Festival, at club meetings, and at the door. Parking will be free in the large student parking garage on campus. On top of being a very pleasant afternoon, you can add to your pleasure in the knowledge that all proceeds from this concert will go to the Central Baltimore County Democratic Club PAC to help elect Democrats in

November or to the PDOT. For those who wish to support the club PAC with a more generous donation, sponsorships

for the evening are also available, starting at $100. Sponsors will receive 2 free tickets and will be acknowledged at the Cabaret, in our Newsletter and in our Email Blasts.
